"Art-Acquire  will present the Dutch 'Pop-Artist' , Diederick Kraaijeveld during  Art-Dubai 2009 at Cuadro Fine Arts Gallery "

Diederick Kraaijeveld 1963

The Dutch” Pop Artist” started his career with a doctorate in History of Art at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. He became a professional newspaper journalist at the beginning of the nineties after his study of Creative Writing at the University of Texas on a scholarship. As a journalist he is an award winning investigative reporter for the leading Dutch TV-channel RTL4. Kraaijeveld received the 2004 award VVOJ (Association for Investigative Journalism The Netherlands and Belgium) for his groundbreaking stories on fraud.

Kraaijeveld , the “Pop Artist”

Kraaijeveld has always had a passion for collecting “things” and made collages with the materials he found. Packets of cigarettes (especially the packets of Gauloises he found during travels into France) were turned into monumental works of art.
The years before becoming a professional and starting “Oudhout”, Kraaijeveld sculpted  wooden logs at the chateau of his aunt Mizou near Aix en Provence (south of France). He would only give away the things he made…..

His first endeavours in Oudhout (literally Old Wood) were two Citroen DS’s now hanging on the walls of two of dear friends who share a passion for this French car. Kraaijeveld, himself, has a passion for the American muscle cars: his first piece of art in Oudhout was a Mustang 1966, once the proud wheels of the artist himself…)

Oudhout searches for painted wooden planks and floorings in old mansions in the inner cities of Holland and centuries old farmhouses in the more rural areas. Kraaijeveld has an eye for  old green, yellow and red flooring from the days Rembrandt was still alive.

Oudhout’s cars and other icons are made of reclaimed wood he finds during his travels and daytrips in Holland and abroad. No dumpster is safe for Oudhout. There is no beach whether along the North Sea, the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean or the Pacific, uncombed…
Kraaijeveld always brings an extra bag on his travels: he imported a piece of a fishing boat he found on the Mombasa Kenya beach and recently came home with an antique horse cart-wheel from Turkey.
Every piece of his “Pop Art “ assemblages/collages is made of genuine coloured vintage wood. Paint is ever used.

Kraaijevelds goal is to create desirable things out of materials people throw away thoughtlessly. The idea that objects of great desire are created out of materials that were thought to be worthless, is a great inspiration to his unique art work.

Diedericks  life and work have been featured in leading Dutch magazines (Elsevier, Seasons, Tableau Art Magazine ), in American Magazines (Auto aficionado) and the leading UK vintage car magazine Octane (May 2008) His art has found its way to private collectors in Holland and abroad. New York, Los Angeles, London, UK, Frankfurt Germany and Sao Paulo Brazil) and in corporate collections; American Express, Audi,  Biomet, Heinz Corporation, Pacific Tank Lines,….

All the "Pop - Art" objects  by Diederick Kraaijeveld have been constructed with the use of descarded wood in it's orginal colour found in dumpsters, on demolition sites of houses and boats, along beach fronts and quais all over the world.

All Stars Red IV aproxx 120 x 74 x 4 cm

Parts of the red in this pair are from Brazillian wood that was used to crate  expensive machinery from Brasil to Holland, by boat.. The pieces were found on a Dutch city dump and salvaged by Kraaijeveld. The provenance of the crate was written on the crate (BRASIL) and the yellow letters can still be found on the All Stars Red IV.
Some of the laces were done in white floorboards from a turn of the century (1900's) mansion in the Dutch city of Utrecht.

'Stainless Steel Olive Oil Container', 131 x 131 x 3 cm.
This multi coloured piece is composed of wood "harvested' from many different locations. The red elements are part of an antique door found in a city-dump.The purple colour  from a 1920 townhouse in Amsterdam, and an old bed found in the town of Hilversum, NL.

“The Seven Wonders of the World”, formally owned by Fortnum & Mason’s of  London.

During the 16th century a Dutchman, Maarten van Heemskerck, made sketches and engravings of “The Seven Wonders of the World “. On the basis of these sketches professor Chris Blackwell created  models of these wonders. He then brought together a dozen English artists (each a specialist in his own discipline) and subsequently took a period of one and a half years to create the “Seven Wonders of the World”. An amazing and beautiful creation.

  Gauloises Blue approxx 130 x 86 x 4 cm

The light blue wood is from an old farm in the village of Maartensdijk in the centre of Holland. Some other blue parts are from the surroundings of the French town Aix-en-Provence where my aunt Mizou owns a Bastide....The cigarettes are done from old floorboards of a Utrecht city mansion....

The original vintage packet on which this piece is based was acquired by me form a French collector through Ebay. The vintage packets are not sold anymore in France or in any other countries. If you look carefuly, you sometimes find old cigarette packets on Ebay. I bought some other special Gauloises packets (Armee or army-version) as well

 Yellow Ferrari (410 S Scaglietty Spyder 1956, frontal) aproxx 120 x 86 x 4.5 cm

This Italian stallion was built from (among other parts) an old Yellow door, found in Hilversum, an antique Italian door of a cupboard (light blue), that I found in the summer of 2007 in the Italian province of Umbria. I like to use Italian old wood when I make Italian cars.......
